If you use ZMUD you might notice that the editor commands don't work, and
the short commands for communication may not work ('.', ':', etc). It is
probably best to disable this behaviour.

To do this:

Select the view menu, then select preferences, then special
         characters.
Ensure that the box next to the : character is not checked.
Ensure that the box next to the . character is not checked.
Also ensure that the box labelled use characters from inherited
settings file is also not checked.
Save these settings, and try using the editor.

If it still doesn't work, have a play around with ZMUD's other settings.
This is not a bug with the MUD, it's a problem on ZMUD's behalf of
setting far too many keys to have special ZMUD functions, rather than
passing them on to the MUD.

If all else fails, close ZMUD and log in by telnet to use your editor.
Optionally, look into TkTurf, a custom client with most of ZMUD's features
(bloat available as optional plugins for TkTurf). http://www.turf.org/tkturf/
